Emma is a registered psychologist, having worked in mental health, education and suicide bereavement. She has been employed by NZ Police since 2010, and discovered the Solution Focused approach in 2011, and has become a self-described “SF enthusiast.” She spent seven years using the Solution Focused approach working with young offenders, before moving into the family harm team in 2018. She has recently developed a project “Conversations in Custody” focused on engaging with people in police custody. She also provides training in the Solution Focused approach for police.

Emma has now accepted a position as Senior Organisational Psychologist at Royal New Zealand Police College, where she will contribute to the development of training products and services for NZ Police. This is an exciting step for her, where she hopes to increase the reach of the Solution Focused approach.

Emma has spoken at the Solution Focused World Conference in Frankfurt in 2017, and at the Australasian Association of Solution Focused Brief Therapy conference in Melbourne in 2018. She is the vice-president of the Australasian Solution Focused Association, a partner of The Possibilities Lab, and also holds a contract with Victim Support to develop and deliver training to the workforce supporting those affected by suicide. She also provides Solution Focused suicide prevention workshops to both professionals and the general public.

Emma is also the mother of four children, and a competitive swimmer.
